Thailand Tour
On this fantastic motorcycle trip, you will ride some of the best roads in South-East Asia. It is unbelievable how many curves there are in northern Thailand. Beautiful temples, exotic nature and foreign culture with smiling people accompany you on this trip and the riding will surely exceed your expectations.
Our tour starts in Chiang Mai – you should arrive one day earlier to explore the city – heading East to the Nan Region, where perfect motorcycle roads in breath-taking scenery and lots of cultures are waiting for you. We continue in direction North to the Mekong river, the lifeline of South-East Asia, and visit the famous Golden Triangle. On former smuggling trails, we ride through the jungle along the border to Myanmar and hardly see any other vehicle. The road to Pai is called the road of the thousand curves and is so much fun to ride. Many thousands of curves later we arrive again in Chiang Mai and look back to an unbelievable motorcycle experience in the country of smile.
DAY 1. Welcome to Chiang Mai
Upon arrival in Chiang Mai, meet at the designated hotel for check-in. Spend your free time relaxing or exploring the City before our safety briefing.
DAY 2. Chiang Mai - Chiang Kham
Are you ready for the ride of your life? Let's start the engines! After the first challenge in the city traffic of Chiang Mai, we ride north on Highway 118 through the Khun Chae National Park, on a great road that serves as a perfect warm-up for our tour. Later we leave the main roads and explore the rural areas of northern Thailand, where we meet friendly people in the small villages. Our first lunch break in a local restaurant in the countryside gives us a taste of Thailand's exotic cuisine. We then spend the night in a beautifully located hotel on the outskirts of
Chiang Kham.
DAY 3. Chiang Kham - Nan
Today we start out by riding the famous highway 1148. This is pure riding fun with an endless number of curves. The ride is very intense and you will appreciate the photo stops along the way to enjoy the breath-taking scenery. The roads stay twisty all day long and they are in really good shape, we are in motorcycle heaven!.
After lunch, we ride along the border of Laos to Nan, our destination for tonight and for and our rest day tomorrow. This former capital of an autonomous kingdom offers lots of culture and history
DAY 4. Nan
Today is our rest day! But it is hard to decide what to do. You could spend the whole day in Nan and explore all the cultural highlights of this ancient capital, visit the famous temples, the national museum, or the historic Royal Teak House.
Other options are to go for an exciting elephant ride or a rafting tour on the Nan River.
For those who can´t get enough riding, we also offer a full day ride on twisty roads to the Lao border and the Sao Din Gorge, a little canyon, caused by thousands of years of erosion.
DAY 5. Nan - Chiang Khong
Today we are heading far into the north. First on well-built roads, which take us past Chiang Kham and up to the Phu Sang National Park. Here the road climbs through dense rainforest and becomes more demanding, narrow, and steep with some hairpin bends. After lunch at the foot of a waterfall, the road continues directly along the Laotian border and repeatedly offers beautiful views over to the neighbouring country. Most spectacular is the view from the breath-taking viewpoint Phu Chi Fa.
In the afternoon we meet the Mekong, the lifeline of Southeast Asia, which here is already several hundred meters wide, although it is still more than 2,000 km away from the sea. We follow it to Chiang Khong, where, from our hotel terrace, we watch all the boats traveling up and down the river while we toast the sunset with a beer. The perfect end to a perfect day!
DAY 6. Chiang Khong - Tha Ton (Mae Ai)
The mystery of the Golden Triangle still lingers today, even though the Thai government emphasizes that it has largely banned opium cultivation and smuggling. In any case, we ride on former (or present?) smuggling routes along the border to Myanmar. The landscape is simply breath-taking and the mountains are up to 2,250 meters high.
Our hotel for the night in Fang is a beautiful resort at the foot of "Little Switzerland", a lonely area in the mountains. Fang is known for its hot springs. If you want, you can take a bath there, but a cold beer is probably more appropriate after this exhausting day of riding.
DAY 7: Tha Ton (Mae Ai) - Pai
Today we are getting very close to the border to the neighbouring country Myanmar. The road on which we ride is narrow, extremely curvy and in very good condition, so we will have a lot of fun. At noon we stop at a very interesting place, a training centre for elephants. Here we can watch the elephants at work and even ride on them!
A beautiful waterfall along the way invites us for a swim before we take the famous " Road of 1000 Curves" under our wheels and finally reach the lively small town of Pai in the afternoon. There you should take a little walk, wander around and enjoy a drink in at least one of the many inviting bars.
DAY 8: Pai - Mae Sariang
We already know the road of 1000 curves, but today we are going to surpass them. On the unofficially titled "Road of 4000 curves", an endless roller coaster ride through the mountains along the Myanmar border awaits you, over several nameless passes, all of which offer magnificent views of the jungle-covered mountains.
We will have lunch near Mae Hong Son, a small town along the route and then take a boat to visit a Padaung village to learn about the culture of the so-called long-necked women. After almost 300 curvy kilometres we will arrive at our hotel in Mae Sariang in the late afternoon, exhausted but happy.
DAY 9: Mae Sariang - Chiang Mai
Unfortunately, our last riding day has arrived, but don't worry, it won't be a boring one! We cruise through the Doi Inthanon National Park and have a look at Thailand's highest Peak, which bears the same name and is shrouded in clouds most of the time. On our way back to Chiang Mai, we stop at a massive waterfall called Wachiratan and enjoy the last twisties before we reach the city and squeeze through chaotic city traffic to our hotel. In the evening it is time for our farewell dinner; after this extreme riding experience it is hard to say goodbye to
your new friends.
DAY 10. Airport transfer and check-out
After breakfast, transfer to the airport. Goodbye, and safe travels home!
